The Enticing Island

Lana'i is unlike any other island in the Hawai'ian Islands.  The small town characteristics still exist with no fast-food chains, no stoplights, and no 24-hour convenience stores.  Yet Lana'i is home to an award winning golf course, fine dining, and two world class resorts.  This unique island offers all of the pampering one could imagine without the hectic pace.  And for that reason, Lana'i is often called "The Enticing Island".

Lana'i's History

Until the 1500's Lana'i was largely uninhabited. It now has a population of over 3,000 people.  Lana'i was once known as the 'Pineapple Island' because of it's island wide pineapple plantation, which closed after the economy made the growing of pineapple economically non-productive. At one point, Lana'i was the largest single plantation in the world. The plantation was originally known as The Hawaiian Pineapple Company and then Dole Pineapple.  Over time, Dole Pineapple merged with Castle and Cooke and as the plantation slowed down tourism took over.  Lana'i is now home to two luxurious resorts. The Manele Bay Hotel is  managed by the Four Seasons Resorts and has tennis courts, an award winning golf course and many ocean activities. The Challenge at Manele by Jack Nicklaus has sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.   The Lodge at 'i Koele is now called Sensei Lana'i.  Sensei Lana'i  is a luxurious wellness retreat operated by Four Seasons Resorts.
